If you earn, save and spend in euros, Bitvavo is designed with you in mind. This Bitvavo review covers the costs, the coin list, the MiCA licence and the gaps that more advanced traders will notice.

Who Bitvavo Is For

Bitvavo suits beginners and regular investors in the European Economic Area who want a regulated, euro-based platform. Recurring buys make it easy to invest a fixed amount on a schedule.

It is not built for users outside the EEA, for people who want to fund in dollars or pounds, or for futures traders.

Getting Euros In

Funding is one of Bitvavo's strongest points. SEPA and iDEAL deposits are free, which removes a cost that can quietly eat into small, regular purchases on other platforms.

The flip side is that euros are the only fiat currency on offer. If your bank account is in another currency, you will face conversion costs before you start.

For users in the Netherlands, free iDEAL deposits are a practical bonus, since topping up does not require a separate bank transfer step through SEPA.

Bitvavo Review of Trading Fees

Bitvavo's fee page sets out different rates by market type:

  • EUR markets: 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker at the lowest tier
  • USDC markets: 0.05% maker and 0.05% taker
  • Stablecoin pairs: 0.10%

For a casual euro buyer, the EUR market rate is the one that matters most. More active traders may be able to save by using the USDC markets, which carry noticeably lower fees.

The trade-off is an extra step: you first need USDC, then you trade against it. For small, occasional buys, the simpler EUR route is usually fine.

Coins and Products

CoinGecko lists 422 coins and 432 pairs on Bitvavo as of November 2026. That is a broad range for a regulated European platform, covering the major assets and a long tail of altcoins.

The product set is focused:

  • Spot trading in EUR
  • Margin
  • Staking
  • Recurring buys

There are no futures. Traders who want derivatives will need a second account elsewhere.

Regulation and Safety

Bitvavo obtained a MiCA crypto-asset service provider licence from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) in 2025. MiCA is the EU-wide framework for crypto firms, so the licence places Bitvavo under a common set of European rules.

CoinGecko records no security incidents for the exchange. As with any platform, use two-factor authentication and consider a personal wallet for holdings you do not plan to trade.

Opening an Account

Sign up on Bitvavo's website or app, verify your identity, then make a first deposit by SEPA or iDEAL. If you plan to invest regularly, set up a recurring buy once the account is funded so purchases run automatically.

Verdict

Bitvavo does the basics very well for euro users: free deposits, low fees on EUR markets, a wide coin list and a MiCA licence from a Dutch regulator. It is one of the more beginner-friendly options in our research.

Its limits are equally clear. There are no futures, euros are the only fiat option and the service is aimed at the EEA. If those limits do not affect you, Bitvavo is an easy recommendation for building a crypto position in euros.
