Want to follow other traders' positions automatically? That is the reason most people end up on Bitget. It runs one of the largest copy-trading platforms in crypto, backed by a derivatives desk and low fees. This Bitget review weighs those strengths against a serious security incident in September 2026 and a missing EU licence.

Copy trading and derivatives

Copy trading lets you mirror the trades of other users. It sits alongside trading bots, so you can automate a strategy yourself or borrow someone else's. Following another trader does not remove risk, and losses are copied just as faithfully as gains.

Choosing someone to copy

Look past headline returns. Check how long a trader has been active, how deep their worst losses were and how much leverage they use. A short, spectacular run may simply be luck. Spreading small amounts across several traders lowers the damage if one of them fails.

Futures pricing is competitive at 0.02% for makers and 0.06% for takers. Margin trading, Earn products and a P2P marketplace complete the line-up.

Bitget review of spot fees

Spot trading costs 0.10% for makers and 0.10% for takers. Paying with Bitget's own token, BGB, cuts both to 0.08%. That is in line with the cheaper large exchanges. Combined with the futures rates above, the BGB discount makes Bitget a low-cost venue for anyone who trades both spot and derivatives.

The coin list is broad. CoinGecko tracks 854 coins and 919 pairs as of November 2026, so altcoin traders have plenty of choice.

The September 2026 breach

On 24 September 2026 attackers drained about $388 million from Bitget's hot and warm wallets. The cause was a flaw in a third-party security product that exposed internal credentials.

Bitget said private keys, user balances and cold wallets were not affected. It also said its Protection Fund would cover the losses in full. According to The Block, withdrawals resumed in phases between 28 September and 2 October 2026.

Safety nets

Two measures help put the incident in context:

  • User Protection Fund: holds 5,500 BTC set aside to cover losses
  • Proof of reserves: reported at 131% by Coin Bureau

These cushions are why the exchange could promise full coverage. They do not erase the fact that its operational security failed.

Regulation and availability

This is Bitget's weakest area. The company is registered in Seychelles, according to CoinGecko. CoinGecko also lists a VASP registration in Lithuania, but that entry is AI-sourced and we could not verify it.

In the EU, Bitget EU applied to Austria's FMA for a MiCA licence in June 2026. As of 5 November 2026 it did not appear on the ESMA register. EU users should watch for news on that application. Bitget is not available to US users.

Getting set up

Register, complete identity checks and deposit crypto or use P2P. Before copying anyone, review their history and start with a small allocation you can afford to lose. US residents cannot open an account.

Should you use Bitget?

Bitget suits traders who want copy trading, bots and cheap futures in one place, and who live outside the US. Its protection fund and reserves gave users a cushion when the September breach hit.

If regulatory status is a priority, the missing MiCA licence is a real gap. The 2027 incident is also recent enough that cautious investors may prefer to wait for a longer period of stability.
